Roscoe's Chicken n Waffles files bankruptcy
Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles in the aftermath of losing a $3 million law suit has filed bankruptcy protection under Chapter 11.

After losing a legal claim against a former employee Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles and filed bankruptcy. Roscoe’s in the Los Angeles Area, was established by Herb Hudson, originally from Harlem, more then 40 years ago. Mr. Hudson did well for himself with the winning combination of chicken served with waffles.

Over the years, being a site location for numerous movie scenes Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles has developed an iconic stature.  Even the President of the United States, Barak Obama, aware of the terrific food at Roscoe’s made at lease one documented trip to the the food chain with his full security detail. And of course, the recording artist Ludacris mentions the restaurant in the song “Call Up The Homies” from his album Theater of the Mind with the lyrics “Let’s roll to Roscoe’s and grab somethin’ to eat.”  This is just one song many that have paid homage to the eatery.

The substantial success of the food chain, however, seems to have hit a snag with the recent loss of a law suit to former employee, Daniel Beasley. Mr. Beasley, who identifies as being black, successfully demonstrated that he was a victim of racial discrimination. This, was said to have resulted through Hispanic employees of Roscoe’s that were managing the restaurant at the Pico Blvd location.  Beasley was able to prove his case, in part, by showing that the company gave Latino employees better shifts. The Los Angeles County jury found in his favor.

There is now a huge loyal fan base of Roscoe’s wondering what the future holds for the diners. Snoop Dogg, who has demonstrated himself as a patron over the years is just one person, with celebrity status, who has weighed in with concern over the food chain. In one video Snoop appears to at least somewhat seriously consider rescuing the chain by purchasing it himself.

In addition to the financial loss from the racial discrimination claim documents filed with the bankruptcy court show debts reaching as high as $50 million. Claiming assets of only $50,000 it remains unclear whether the food chain will be able to restructure and remain open. The food chain is appealing the findings of the.

One especially noteworthy song written and performed expressly regarding Roscoe’s Waffles & Chicken has has had over 500,000 views on You Tube since it’s posting in 2008. With all of the fanfare regarding Roscoe’s one hopes the eatery will manage to restructure and survive well into the future.
